What is Visa 3-D Secure and How Does It Work?
The short answer: Better, stronger fraud detection.
The detailed answer: Formerly known as Verified by Visa, 3-D Secure uses risk-based authentication to protect both buyers and sellers from online fraud. It uses data from merchants, card issuers, and occasionally consumers to identify and prevent suspicious transactions.
When you see a Visa Secure badge while shopping online, your purchases are protected by Visa. If the system spots a high-risk transaction, it may ask you for extra verification. This happens rarely, as approximately 95% of purchases are considered low risk.
How do I sign up?
This service is automatically built in to ICCU members’ Visa credit and debit cards — no sign up or fee required. Visa 3-D Secure works in the background, automatically protecting you from fraud while you shop.
