What is a contactless card?

A contactless card allows payments to be made through a contactless-enabled checkout terminal with a simple tap of the card. With short-range wireless technology a contactless card uses a one-time use code for fast and secure payments.

How do I know if my card can make contactless payments?

You will see the Contactless IndicatorFive concentric arcs indicating a wireless signalon the front of your card.

How do I get a contactless card?

Starting in March 2020, new and reissued Idaho Central Visa credit and debit cards will feature contactless technology.

Are contactless payments safe?

Yes. Just like with a chip card, each transaction is accompanied by a one-time code that securely protects your payment information. Additionally, you can’t pay accidentally – your card must be within 1-2 inches of the terminal for the sale to register. And you won’t be billed twice, even if you accidentally tap twice.

How does EMV chip and contactless technology protect my information?

Whether you use the EMV chip or tap and go with your contactless visa card, you are protected with a one-time code that protects your payment information.

How do contactless payments work?

When you’re shopping in-store and are ready to make your payment, look for the Contactless SymbolFive concentric arcs indicating a wireless signal on the checkout terminal. If you see the Contactless Symbol, simply bring your card or device within a few inches of the Contactless Symbol. Get the ok – a “beep”, checkmark, or green light – and go, you’re all set!

Is this technology similar to mobile wallets, like Apple Pay®?

Yes. Contactless technology uses the same technology as mobile wallets such as Apply Pay and Google Pay™.

Where can I pay with a contactless card or payment-enabled device?

Can I still swipe or insert my Visa contactless card even if I don’t see the contactless symbol at the checkout terminal?

Yes. If you don’t see the Contactless SymbolFive concentric arcs indicating a wireless signalon the checkout terminal, you can still swipe or insert your contactless card, just like any other Visa card.

Am I still protected against unauthorized charges?

Yes. To dispute a transaction on your credit card, contact a customer service representative at ICCU. Call 1-800-456-5067.

Will I have to pay any fees to use my chip card?

No. There are no fees for regular point-of-sale transactions. However, if you make purchases processed outside the U.S. or if you travel internationally, Visa charges a 1% transaction fee on those international purchases.
