We all need support from our communities. But to serve us, those communities need our support too, perhaps now more than ever. Idaho nonprofits do just that. According to a 2021 study, nonprofits increase social engagement and buffer communities from threats to wellbeing.
The causes they champion — from animal rehabilitation to fishing education to suicide prevention — make Idaho communities what they are today. It’s not easy, and they can’t do it alone.
From April 29 to May 2, Idahoans can participate in the state’s biggest giving event of the year: Idaho Gives. We proudly sponsor this event because we believe that when you invest in your community, your community invests back into you tenfold. It’s that cycle of giving that makes Idaho so strong. For anyone thinking about attending or donating, here’s all you need to know.
What is Idaho Gives?
Idaho Gives is an upcoming online event organized by the Idaho Nonprofit Center. It’s designed to raise money and awareness for 600+ registered nonprofits throughout the Gem State.
This event is the perfect chance to bolster one of your favorite parts of your community. Maybe you want to see the Basque Block in Downtown Boise thrive. Or maybe you’d love to stand behind the moms of Southeast Idaho as their KIND Community nonprofit battles teen suicide. No matter what you love about your little piece of the Northwest, there’s a way to make it even better.
If you’re not ready to donate, you can educate yourself on what your local nonprofits are up to, champion the ones that speak to you, and find contact info on organizations you’d like to volunteer at.
Ultimately, this event is designed to unite Idahoans and raise awareness of all the ways nonprofits already affect our day-to-day lives.
Why is ICCU involved?
As Idaho’s most popular credit union, we’re an active member of these local communities, and we take great pride in supporting them. Idaho Gives is an incredible initiative that benefits ICCU members and non-members alike. Its impact on nonprofits, which support Idaho’s 1.9 million residents in countless ways, is perfectly aligned with our member-centered mission.
Combined with our volunteer work, community events, and financial education efforts, Idaho Gives represents a key part of ICCU’s ethos. We love Idaho Gives because it’s a powerful event that supports local communities and organizations. Idaho Gives unites Idaho by creating awareness and support for organizations that are doing amazing things in our communities.
How do Idaho Gives donations work?
While Idaho Gives is as much about the community as it is about donations, you’ll be relieved to know that donating is simple:
- Visit the Idaho Gives website and search for a nonprofit that aligns with your passions or location.
- Click the nonprofit page that speaks the most to you.
- Click the Donate button to contribute a specific amount, or click Champion to shout out the causes you support. Some pages let you donate an experience, such as the $150 Hope’s Door Shelter Stay below.
- Spread the word! Bragging rights are yours if you convince your friends and family to donate.
Most donations will be handled online via GiveGab. This means the Idaho nonprofit will receive the full amount except for the admin fees, which donors can pay if they’d like. The nonprofit will receive the funds within three days, allowing them to use the funds as an immediate catalyst for growth.
Is my Idaho Gives donation tax-deductible?
Donations made through the Idaho Gives online portal to charitable nonprofit organizations are tax-deductible and cannot be refunded. Contributions are via credit and debit card only. Donations will be received and receipted by GiveGab. Learn more in the Idaho Gives Donor FAQ.
Why should I get involved?
Idaho Gives is an easy way to search, support, and donate to Idaho nonprofits. When you participate, you join a movement — one that puts money directly into the causes you care about. This is your chance to prove to yourself that you can change your slice of Idaho for the better. Big change is built on small acts of service.
Whether you’re in Idaho Falls, Boise, Moscow, or anywhere in between, you won’t find a better outlet for charity than Idaho Gives. It’s a low-effort way to make a difference in your area. By backing local ventures, you remind the nonprofits closest to you that they’re not in it alone.
