There are many different types of positions available at Idaho Central, from the back-office underwriting staff to the member-facing teller positions to the friendly faces greeting you at events. We have many team members who have started in entry level positions and have grown to positions in leadership in a variety of departments. Jenny Nelson is currently a Business Analyst Manager in our Information Technology department. She will celebrate seventeen years this June and has held many different positions during her time at ICCU. She began working in our Member Contact Center when there were only five team members in that department! That team has now grown to 176 Member Contact Center Agents throughout the state.
Over the years, Jenny has been a loan officer, a consumer underwriter, a consumer products manager, a lending project manager, and in home equity processing. She has seen Idaho Central grow to over 500,000 members and almost $9 billion in assets. With this enormous growth, she has seen some major changes to the credit union. She attributes her ability to wear many different hats and adapt professionally to having an open mind. She became an expert in each position she held, which allowed her to progress when the right advancement opportunity presented itself.
By starting out in an entry level position in our call center, Jenny was able to get a wholistic view of what the credit union does. Now that she’s in the Information Technology department, she still refers back to her time taking calls when it comes to understanding how the back end affects member experience. She draws on this knowledge when she considers what seemingly small changes can affect our members.
Idaho Central takes pride in providing paths for every stage in our team members’ careers. We train our managers to create strength development plans for each of their team members and encourage them to meet their professional goals. There is an annual challenge to read business books and grow your learning hours by taking courses or shadowing other positions. Jenny took the opportunity to develop a plan and talk to her supervisors about where she wanted to go in her career path, and it’s taken her far!
